For Jake’s Sake

Jake is a 4 year old boy that has been fighting mitochondrial disease for a long time. The wife of KSI SE7EN 7, creator of KSI Global gaming community, is the nurse for this strong little boy.

A convention is going to be held in Jake’s area soon. Hundreds of the best doctors throughout the world will be coming here. It is crucial that Jake and his family get to attend this. The problem is, Jake’s family only had $75 dollars when they were informed of the convention. KSI has been accepting donations all weekend. They have raised $1000 for Jake, but they still have $1000 to go.

I am not asking this as a part of KSI, I am asking this as a human being who sympathizes a young boy who has been unable to enjoy many of life’s pleasures that most of us take for granted every day.

You can find out more and donate at http://www.forjakessake.net.

Yahoo Ends Talks With Microsoft

Yahoo has announced that all business talk with the big M have ended and won’t return. They have also announced that they are nearing a complete agreement with Google (the god of the Internet). So what could this mean? It means Google becomes even stronger. Like the Zeus of the search engines. Take that Microsoft.

Rock Band Lawsuit Over

Some loser named Michael Antonelli had sued Harmonix a while back complaining that the game was advertised for four players, but that the game only came with a mic, drum set, and ONE guitar (without an option to purchase another guitar).

This ridiculous lawsuit was thrown out yesterday when, I’m guessing, the judge actually read the suit and realized that Michael Antonelli is an idiot.

First of all, get an Internet connection and play online. And secondly, I think you should be playing ping pong in a nut house.

Go!

Today’s the day! Download Firefox 3 now!

Firefox 3

The released date of Firefox 3 has finally been announced! If the voice in your head (Yes, that voice is real. You aren’t insane.) is “What is Firefox?”, please let me know so I can personally come slap you.

Firefox is an Internet browser created by the Mozilla Developer Community. One great feature of Firefox is that the Mozilla Community has a HUGE selection of free add-ons that you can use to give your Firefox more flexibility. These add-ons are basically programs that run inside the browser. Mozilla has also scoured the web for every malicious site they can find (i.e. Porn Spyware sites) and compiled them in a restricted list of Firefox to where Firefox will block any data transactions with these sites. This means that even if you visit a porn site that’s not malicious but it has malicious links, Firefox will block those links, but it will still let you on the non-malicious site. This makes Firefox the most secure browser. Ever. Period.

If you’re on Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari, or whatever else that isn’t Firefox, click here now!

The official release date is June 17th. The guys at Mozilla want to set the world record for the most downloads of a software with Firefox 3. So on June 17th, fire up that older version of Firefox and download Firefox 3. Support the guys that gave you the best browser ever for free.

The Information Age Crackdown

Here’s the deal: it is the Information Age. You can’t hide from it. Everyone’s got to face it some time. Many people are afraid to face it, and some face it a little too much. For those of you that are afraid to face it, I am not telling you what to do, but I would suggest trying to trust the associations that work toward keeping you and your families safe and I also suggest for you to be more vigilant in the technology world.

Some of you parents may not want your children being exposed to certain content in video games. That is respectable. The ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) is in charge of rating each marketed video game before in the United States before its release. Their ratings are based on the content of the game, and they provide age specifications for each rating. There is EC for early childhood games, E for games that everyone can play, E+10 for games recommended for everyone age 10 and up, T for games that are recommended for teens ages 13 and up, M for games that contain mature content and are recommended to be viewed only by people ages 17 and up, and lastly AO which is for games that are recommended for adults only.

The MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) is responsible for rating each film released in the United States. The ratings are: G for General Audiences, PG for Parental Guidance, PG-13 for films recommended for everyone age 13 and up, R for Restricted (in which anyone under 17 must be accompanied by parent), and NC-17, which is for films in which you MUST be 17 or older to be admitted to.
The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) is responsible for marking each music album in the United States that contains explicit content (i.e. drugs, sex, strong language) with a PAL (Parental Advisory Label).
While these associations do a great job of providing their ratings for the benefit of consumers, many retailers fall short of maintaining the rules and regulations set by these associations. By law, a retailer is restricted from selling anyone under 18 a Mature rated game, yet a recent undercover shopping survey (in which the FTC had teens ages 13-16 shop at different retailers for mature content and see how many of them were able to buy the products) shows that about 20% of undercover teenage shoppers were able to purchase titles with a Mature rating. This result was a definite improvement over the estimated 42% in 2006, but it’s still not 0%. The same study showed that over half of the shoppers were able to purchase R and Mature rated DVDs and CDs with a PAL. This, if anything, should encourage everyone afraid of facing the Information Age to become involved and make sure you know that retailers your family buys from abide by the rating laws.

The rating violations aren’t all you should pay attention to. With social networking sites such as MySpace, Facebook, and YouTube, you should watch for Net Banging. Net Banging is the term used to identify gang recruitment over the Internet. Gang members expose the lifestyle to thousands each day through those popular sites.

The main point here is for you to not live in fear on this new age, but just for you to be more vigilant.

Thanks,

Metal Gear Solid 4 Review

With hardly any games for the PS3, PS3 gamers hardly have games. Well, finally, Konami has brought you guys something to do besides have dinner with your moms.

Last year, Konami announced Metal Gear Solid 4, the newest addition to their nice series. In the newest beauty, gamers yet again play as the ledgendary Solid Snake (who is getting pretty old) to finish that one last mission.

Many top companies and magazines have reviewed MGS4, and although they were asked to keep their traps shut by Konami, they have revealed one big detail. Don’t worry. It’s not a spoiler. They revealed that the cutscenes of Metal Gear Solid 4 last up to 90 minutes!

Konami and Sony have teamed up to provide some love to the gamers. They are selling a PS3/MGS4 bundle for $600. The bundle includes a 40 GB PS3, a limited edition version of MGS4, and also a special 2 hour Blu-Ray disc that features the making of Metal Gear Solid 4.

Early MGS4 Sales

With the recent street sales of upcoming title Metal Gear Solid 4, Konami has reacted in a way that nobody would expect.

Their view on the subject is that although they don’t like to see early street sales of titles, they can’t control and watch every shipment of their games. They didn’t seem angry at all!

Most likely because by the time the first cutscenes of the game are over, the official release will be here.
